Construction of five double-storey x 2,000m² Educational Centres in remote locations in Limpopo.
MRH Consulting Engineers were commissioned by the Department of Education to design five educational hubs in very remote parts of the Limpopo Province. The mandate was to design thermally efficient structures. These buildings were constructed using ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms) for the walls (EBS) and Thermal Acoustic Slab System (TASS) for the suspended slabs. This resulted in very energy-efficient buildings with thermal insulation against high summer temperatures in the region, while also overcoming the difficulty of getting materials to remote sites.
This was a community upliftment project whereby MRH Consulting Engineering assisted, not only with the structural design of the Centres, but also with educating local, unskilled labour on constructing with new lightweight technologies.
